John E Mack was a highly respected Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a Pulitzer Prize winner for his work on TE Lawrence.
John was born in New York City and received his medical degree from Harward Medical School (Cum Laude) in 1955. He was certified in child and adult psychoanalysis and had a great interest in the question how a persons world view affected his relationships and perceptions of the world.
In the early 1990s John was confronted with the alien abduction pheonomenon, while first considering the people who reported these experiences as mentally ill he slowly changed his mind. He began in study of 200 men and women who reported regular alien encounter experienced and came to the conclusion that they showed no obvious pathologies. He conducted regular interviews with the 200 people and they all reported that their experiences caused a profound change in their world view and opened them up to spirituality and environmental concerns.
In 1994 John published his research results in a book which caused irritations at Harward Medical School. A committee was appointed to take a look into John's work because the topic was just too far out there for mainstream science to be considered real. After 14 month and after increasing questions about the validity of the investigation a statement was issued that "Dr. Macks academic freedom to study what he wishes and to state his opinions without impediment was reaffirmed".
On September 27th 2004 John attended a conference in London and was struck by a drunk driver on the way to his hotel. He was pronounced dead the same evening.
