Bob Monroe (Robert Allan Monroe)
(October 30, 1915 - March 17, 1995)
Robert Monroe was born in Indiana (US) as the third of four children to a college professor father and a medical doctor mother. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1937 with a BA in engineering. After working as a writer and director at two Ohio radio stations he moved to New York where he worked as a successful radio broadcasting executive. He formed his company RAM Enterprises in 1953 which produced 28 programs monthly. Robert created a research and development division in his company doing research on the sleep state particularly into sleep-learning.
In 1958 Robert had his first out of body experience during which he suddenly found himself looking at his own body from the outside. This experiences was so shocking to him, that he prefered to never live through something so disturbing again but this kept happening and Robert increasingly learned to come to terms with this unusual phenomena and began to explore it.
In 1962 Robert moved his company to Virginia and later renamed it to Monroe Industries. In 1985 the research subsidiary became the Monroe Institute. During all this time he and his team performed intense research into out of body experiences and non-physical realities. His self-awareness programs - e.g. the hemi-sync tapes - made it possible for people to launch out of body experiences on purpuse.
Robert Monroe can be seen as the most important explorer of the out of body phenomena of the last century. Through his books he helped many people to make sense of their own experiences.
